Privacy Policy

Kindwake ("we", "us") makes a morning-ritual app that locks distracting apps until you finish a short gratitude and intention ritual. We built Kindwake to need as little of your data as possible. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

The short version

  • Kindwake has no accounts and no login.
  • Your gratitudes and intentions stay on your device and in your own private iCloud (iPhone) or Google backup (Android). We can't read them.
  • If you use Circles, the gratitude you choose to share each morning is stored on our servers so the people in that circle can read it. Your intentions and reflections are never shared.
  • We cannot see which apps you choose to block. On iPhone, Apple's Screen Time keeps that private, even from us. On Android, the list never leaves your phone.
  • We see your first name and how you use the app (which screens you reach, when you finish a ritual), never what you write.
  • If you enter a creator's code, that creator can see your first name and your progress.
  • We never sell your data.

Information we collect

Your ritual entries. The gratitudes and intentions you write are stored locally on your device. On iPhone, if you have iCloud enabled, they sync through your own private iCloud account so they're available across your devices. On Android, they're included in your phone's own Google backup if you have backup turned on. They are not sent to or stored on our servers, unless you choose to share your gratitude with a circle (see Circles below).

Circles. Circles are small private groups, up to 12 people, where members see each other's gratitude. Using Circles creates an anonymous account with no email or password, kept in your phone's secure storage (the iPhone Keychain, or Android Keystore). When you start or join a circle we store your first name, the circles you belong to, and your role in each. Each morning you choose whether to share that day's gratitude with each circle; only the gratitude lines you share are stored, never your intentions or reflections. We also store the hearts you send, and any posts you hide, people you block and posts you report. Only members of a circle can see what's shared in it. If you report a post, we keep a copy of it so we can review it.

App-blocking selections. Kindwake uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) to lock the apps you choose. By Apple's design, the specific apps you select are handled entirely on your device and are never shared with us. We only know how many items you selected, not which ones.

App blocking on Android. To lock the apps you choose, Kindwake on Android asks for two permissions: Usage access and Display over other apps. It uses them only to see when one of your chosen apps opens, so it can show its lock screen. The list of apps on your phone, the apps you choose and which app is open are all read on your phone and never leave it. A small ongoing notification shows while your apps are set to lock.

Subscription information. When you start a free trial or subscribe, Apple (on iPhone) or Google Play (on Android) processes the purchase. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions, which receives your purchase status and an anonymous identifier. We never receive your card details. Apple or Google handles all payment.

Your first name. The first name you type when setting up Kindwake (or change later in Settings) is sent to us, so we know who is using the app and can support you.

Usage analytics. We use PostHog to understand how Kindwake is used, so we can improve it: which setup screens people reach, and events such as finishing setup or completing a ritual. These are linked to a random identifier for your device and to your first name. They never include what you write in your gratitudes or intentions, or which apps you block.

Creator codes. If a creator gave you a code and you enter it, we record it so the creator can be credited if you subscribe. We use Insert Affiliate and RevenueCat for this. The creator can also see your first name, when you entered the code, whether you finished setup, and when you last completed a ritual. We tell you this on the code screen before you enter a code. If you don't enter a code, no creator sees anything about you.

Notifications. If you allow notifications, Kindwake schedules a local reminder at your chosen wake time, on your device.

Feedback you send. If you use the in-app feedback form, we receive the message you write (and a name if you add one) by email so we can reply. This is delivered through our email provider, Resend.

On the website. If you submit your email on kindwake.app to get the App Store link, we store that email to send it to you and, occasionally, product updates. You can unsubscribe anytime. If you join the Android waitlist, we store your email and use it once, to tell you when Kindwake is on Google Play.

Website visits. We count visits to kindwake.app with PostHog: the page you opened, the site that sent you, your country and city, and your type of device. We don't use cookies and we don't store your IP address. To count each visitor once a day, we use a scrambled code made from your connection that changes every day, so it can't follow you over time.

How we use information

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it.

Data retention and deletion

Your entries live on your device and in your iCloud or Google backup. Deleting your data in the app (Settings) or deleting the app removes the entries from your device. Your iCloud data is controlled by you in your Apple settings, and your Google backup in your Google account. Leaving a circle deletes everything you shared in it. Deleting your data in the app also deletes your Circles account and everything you shared, straight away. To remove an email you submitted on the website, use the unsubscribe link or email us. To have your first name and usage data deleted, email us and we'll remove them.

Children

Kindwake is intended for a general audience. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information. Because Kindwake keeps your entries on your own device and in your own iCloud or Google backup, you already control them directly. For anything else, email us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date at the top.
